An anonymous SEC defensive coordinator made quite the statement about Tennessee Vols redshirt senior quarterback Joe Milton this week.
Typically, these anonymous quotes are just a way that opposing coaches can slam a program or offer a criticism of an opposing offense/defense/player.
The anonymous quote about Milton, however, is actually a massive compliment.
An unidentified SEC defensive coordinator told ESPN that Milton is "the most dangerous guy" while also comparing the Florida native to a player who was selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
"He's the most dangerous guy," said the coordinator. "He's kind of like what Anthony Richardson was [in 2022], he's humongous. I've watched him in warmups in pads and I'm like, 'I hope he does not get in.' But now he's up."
Another anonymous SEC coach also had high praise for Milton while speaking with ESPN.
"An absolute cannon for an arm," said the SEC coach about Milton. "There's no vertical shot he can't hit. He's a little more of a pocket passer and seems to be comfortable standing back there and making throws. He's got all the right tools you need. He can reach the far numbers; he can spray it all over the field."
There are plenty of questions about Milton and how he'll perform in 2023. Most of those questions, though, are coming from the media. The coaches that actually have to play against Milton, however, are clearly believers in his talent. And they won't be sleeping on Milton this fall.
