The Tennessee Vols advanced past the Knoxville regional on Sunday via their 12-3 win against Southern Mississippi.

It's the fourth straight year that Tennessee has advanced past regional play. And it's the second straight year the Vols have eliminated Southern Miss.

A year ago, the Vols beat Southern Miss in the Hattiesburg Super Regional.

Tennessee fans felt that the Vols should've hosted the Super Regional instead of Southern Miss. And fans pointed to the fact that Hattiesburg doesn't even have an Applebees to support their argument

Southern Miss fans, unsurprisingly, weren't thrilled with the Applebees narrative.

"I'm new to Laurel (the closest Applebees to Hattiesburg) and I like it here so I'm rooting for Southern Miss to get the job done this week," said a Southern Miss fan to the Hattiesburg American last summer. "The fact that this was actually a thing online is crazy. Their fans just seem really upset there isn’t an Applebees in Hattiesburg I guess."

On Sunday, as the Vols recorded the final out against Southern Miss to advance to a Super Regional, WNML's John Wilkerson hearkened back to the Applebees storyline from last summer by throwing in "Tennessee is gonna be eating good in the neighborhood", a reference to Applebees' famous slogan.

That's why Wilkerson is one of the best in the business. Just a subtle "shot" at Southern Miss after last summer's fun Applebees drama.
