Former Tennessee Vols star Christian Moore likes to swing the bat in Knoxville. In case anyone forgot, he proved that again on Tuesday night.
The VFL and current member of the Rocket City Trash Pandas – the double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels – slugged three hits including his first home run of the year for the Trash Pandas, and it came in Knoxville against the Smokies.
In addition to the crowd, which can be heard cheering for Moore after his home run, the local Knoxville media were out in full force for his return.
Moore has started off slowly in his first full year with the Angels' double-A affiliate. Through his first 17 games this year, he'd hit only .158 at the plate with 2 doubles and no home runs.
However, things have changed over the last few days for Moore. In his last three games, he's totaled 7 hits and 13 total bases. Now, he's got that first home run of the season off his back. And where else should that have happened but Knoxville?
Moore had a generational season for the Tennessee Vols last year on their way to the program's first-ever College World Series title. He hit .375 with 34 home runs (a single-season program record) and 74 RBIs, securing the program record for career home runs in the process. He also became the first Vol and just the second player ever to hit for the cycle at the College World Series during Tennessee's 12-11 comeback win over Florida State in Omaha.
It appears that Moore is starting to settle and swing the bat well again. Just what you'd expect of him in Knoxville.
