It's no secret the Cleveland Browns have been bitten by the injury bug at running back this season. The devastating season-ending knee injury to Nick Chubb was heartbreaking for the sixth year back and a big blow to the Browns' offense.
Both of the players behind him have been dealing with injuries as well. Kareem Hunt has been fighting a thigh injury that's limited him in practice, while Jerome Ford is dealing with an ankle injury that could cause him to miss Sunday's game against Seattle.
As such, Cleveland made a move to add some depth to the reeling running back room while bringing a familiar face back to the facility. The Browns signed RB John Kelly, Jr. to their practice squad on Friday.
The former Tennessee Volunteer has been a regular in Cleveland over the last three seasons. He initially joined the Browns as a practice squad member in September 2020, but has been waived and re-signed several times since. He did not make the initial 53-man roster in August, as he was let go as part of final cuts along with running backs Hassan Hall and Demetric Felton, Jr.
Now, with the Browns potentially being without Ford's services on Sunday and Hunt banged up, it's conceivable that Kelly could be called up this weekend to help give some much-needed healthy legs, along with fellow backfield mate Pierre Strong, Jr.
The Browns and Seahawks kick off on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm ET from Lumen Field in Seattle.
