A lot has been made about the weather ahead of the Tennessee Volunteers' clash with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the College Football Playoff.  Temperatures are projected to be around 17 degrees at kickoff.

However, South Dakota native Josh Heupel isn't worried about it.  As far as he's concerned, that's just a summer day from his upbringing.

"Yeah, it's a June day in South Dakota," Heupel quipped with a laugh. "It's going to be great football weather. A couple of weeks ago we played in 30-degree weather. We practiced in the morning, still a chill, as cold as it will be around this area.  At the end of the day, you get between the white lines, weather doesn't matter, the temperature doesn't. We'll be ready to go play. It will be a lot of fun."

The issue of weather has come up repeatedly among fans, media, and social media alike, but it's not like the Vols are coming up after playing a season in South Florida or the Bahamas.  And indeed Tennessee (eventually) looked just fine in 30-degree weather against Vanderbilt back on November 30.

Tennessee has played in weather similarly cold before, although not often.  Per the Tennesseean, Tennessee won a 7-0 game against Kentucky in Knoxville back in 1950 where the temperatures got down to 10 degrees.  They were in the 20s when the Vols upended Missouri in Columbia 19-8 back in 2015.

But this team appears very capable of handling weather like this.  With a physical running game and a tough and deep defense, this is a game that, if they can avoid making the big mistakes, the Vols are built for.

After all, this is just a summer day for the guy leading them out onto the field on Saturday night.
