There’s an axiom about college football recruiting — you need to try and land a quarterback in every class. For the 2028 class, Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols are big game hunting, and they’re going up against their former coach and their biggest headache in the process.

Five-star QB and number one overall recruit in the 2028 class Jayden Wade (IMG Academy; Bradenton, FL), per Rivals’ industry rankings, is committed to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. However, he told Rivals this week that he wants to take some visits during his recruiting process.

And as things stand now, Tennessee and LSU are two schools currently on his radar.

“I am looking at LSU and Tennessee,” Wade told Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “I’m not sure when I will visit those schools, but those are the main two. I like the offense at both schools. We see what Lane Kiffin does with quarterbacks, so I will check those schools out.”

Per Simmons, Wade is locked into the Bulldogs pretty solidly, with Wade nothing that it “would take a lot” for him to change his mind on Georgia. Wade committed to the Bulldogs back in November despite interest from Texas and Ohio State.

Fortunately, the future at the quarterback position over the next several years for Tennessee looks bright with the highly-touted George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon in Knoxville. The cupboard is not bare of talent to develop.

But it’s never too early to think about the future, and while the odds aren’t high, it appears Tennessee is still in the fight for a potential future star.
