The Tennessee Vols are reportedly the “top team to watch” for a talented transfer safety from the Big 12.

On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Saturday morning that Tennessee is in a “strong position” for Kansas State Wildcats transfer safety Qua Moss.

Nakos also noted that Moss is visiting Tennessee this weekend.

“Currently visiting Tennessee, the Volunteers are viewed as the top team to watch and are in a strong position to close out this recruitment,” wrote Nakos.

The Qua Moss file

  • 5-foot-10/185 pounds from West Point, GA
  • Spent the 2023 season at Dodge City Community College
  • Transferred to West Georgia for the 2024 season
  • Totaled 41 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble at Kansas State in 2025

Qua Moss would fill a big position of need for the Volunteers

Safety is one of the Vols’ biggest positions of need this offseason.

Tennessee’s safeties struggled at times in 2025. And considering how important safeties are in new Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defense, it’s obvious why Tennessee is targeting several high profile transfer safeties.

Moss was a zero star recruit coming out of Troup County High School in Georgia, but he worked his way into becoming one of the top defensive backs in the Big 12 last season, grading out at 76.4 in coverage according to Pro Football Focus.

The dynamic safety had one of the craziest interceptions you’ll ever see this past season in a game against UCF.

Landing Moss would be a big get for the Vols. We’ll see if Tennessee can seal the deal during his visit to Rocky Top.

The Vols likely need to add more than one safety from the transfer portal, so Tennessee may not be done targeting defensive backs who could contribute immediately in 2026.
