Tennessee Vols assistant coach Mike Ekeler is one of the more interesting characters to arrive in Knoxville in recent years.
Ekeler was hired by Josh Heupel earlier this offseason to serve as UT's outside linebackers coach/special teams coordinator. Ekeler is a veteran assistant who has spent time at Oklahoma, LSU, Nebraska, USC, Georgia, North Carolina, and Kansas, among other stops.
The former Kansas State linebacker has only been on the job for a few months, but he's already a fan favorite for his energetic style and well-executed tweets.
The Athletic's David Ubben recently put together a profile of Ekeler that's full of great stories from various sources. It's absolutely worth checking out.
One of the more interesting things to come from Ubben's story is that Ekeler and his wife are actually dual citizens of the United States and Jamaica.
Ekeler and his wife, Barbie, got married in Jamaica eight months after meeting each other. In order to get married in Jamaica, they had to arrive a few days early to declare citizenship for the marriage to be recognized.
Two decades later, Ekeler and his wife are still citizens of both the United States and Jamaica, according to Ubben.
I think it's safe at this point to call Ekeler the most interesting coach in college football.
