A couple of Tennessee Vols players are projected as first round selections in the latest 2024 MLB mock draft from ESPN.
ESPN's Kiley McDaniel has the Miami Marlins selecting Vols second baseman Christian Moore with the No. 16 overall pick in next month's draft.
From ESPN: Moore was perceived to be behind teammate Billy Amick in the draft a month ago but has now overtaken him with a blazing-hot finish. Miami is tied to ACC/SEC position players, which also is what the board is giving them at this point. This is also the first spot preps SS Carter Johnson and RF P.J. Morlando come up, though they likely land later.
McDaniel has the New York Yankees selecting Tennessee third baseman Billy Amick with the No. 26 overall pick.
Amick started his career at Clemson before transferring to Tennessee this past offseason.
From ESPN: The Yankees have been tied to Amick, Cijntje, Doughty, Benge, Waldschmidt, Bateman and Jonathan Santucci. Those last two may have a chance to get to New York's next pick.
McDaniel has former Tennessee RHP Chase Burns, who transferred to Wake Forest before the 2024 season, going to the Cincinnati Reds with the No. 2 overall pick.
Additionally, McDaniel noted that Vols RHP Drew Beam "looks like" he'll be a top 50 selection in the 2024 MLB Draft.
It sounds like there should be plenty of orange in next month's draft. But before Tennessee's players can worry about the draft, they have to worry about the NCAA Tournament and a regional draw that includes Indiana, Northern Kentucky, and Southern Mississippi.
