The Tennessee Volunteers are the clear-cut number top team in the country on the eve of the NCAA tournament. The only team in the field to win 50 games and both the SEC regular season and tournament champion, the Vols have already had a spectacular season.
However, it appears the SEC Network felt that was all quite boring when they were recording a summary video of the SEC tournament championship on Sunday between the Vols and the LSU Tigers.
The SEC Network posted a video capturing the supposed highlights of the game, and they sure got a lot of footage from LSU's angle.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say they were filming this from the perspective of capturing the underdog Tigers winning the title. From all the mic'd up clips of manager Jay Johnson to the shots of LSU's dugout, the tone was unmistakable, and it was as clear as hearing Neck and as strong as the smell of gumbo.
I mean, for heaven's sakes, they didn't even include in the video undoubtedly the biggest play of the game. With the score 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, catcher Cal Stark threw a laser from his knees to first baseman Blake Burke, who tagged out the LSU runner to get the Vols out of a bases loaded jam. No play shown, no excitement from the Vols' dugout captured. Missed opportunity: huge.
Instead, the SEC Network simply showed the scoreboard light up a zero for the bottom of the sixth.
They did manage to make a hero's revival type of call for LSU in the bottom of the ninth though. Fortunately for Tennessee fans, Aaron Combs spoiled the ending by punching out the final two batters of the game with filthy curveballs.
It's just a very weird, very deliberate video clip that really doesn't do the team it claims to be congratulating – the Tennessee Vols – very much justice. Fortunately, the Vols ended up writing their own ending on Sunday in Hoover and are off to bigger and better things this weekend in Knoxville.
