One of the Tennessee Vols’ top defensive transfer targets is Penn State transfer EDGE Chaz Coleman.

Coleman is one of the most coveted players in the portal. He’s a top target for Tennessee not just because of his talent, but also because of his connection to new Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles (Coleman played under Knowles at Penn State in 2025).

The Volunteers hosted Coleman on a trip this week following his visit to LSU. Coleman took a visit to Ohio State after his trip to Tennessee.

“I think Tennessee is in it,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price earlier this week on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will. “He’s going to go to Ohio State (for a visit). Again, when kids leave your campus (after a visit), the chances of getting them, to me, dwindle. It doesn’t mean that they can’t. They absolutely can still pick Tennessee — or any school that they leave (after a visit) — but you just run the risk of something happening at the next stop along the way.

“And so he’ll go to Ohio State (for a visit) — that’s his home state school. That’s where everybody’s had him pegged for this entire time. You talk to a few people around him and they’re not as locked in on that notion as others are. But again, there’s a reason that people at Penn State said that it’s been thought that he was going to go [to Ohio State] since the month of November. We’ll see if that comes to fruition.”

Coleman is from Ohio, which is one reason why folks see the Buckeyes as the favorite in this battle.

Chaz Coleman could visit another SEC program after his visit to Ohio State

Another SEC team could be getting in the mix for Coleman.

On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Wednesday that South Carolina may be getting a visit from the former four-star recruit.

“The Warren, Ohio, native is wrapping up a trip to Ohio State,” noted Nakos. “South Carolina could land a visit this week.”

LSU is also still in the mix for Coleman.

With numerous high profile programs involved for Coleman, it means Tennessee will likely need to go well above its budget to land the talented EDGE.
