The Tennessee Vols could be a sneaky bet to land an elite four-star offensive lineman from Michigan.
Rayshaun Benny, 6-foot-5/275 lbs from Oak Park, MI, is being strongly pursued by schools like Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State, but the Vols are hoping to swipe the dynamic offensive lineman out of the Wolverine state.
Benny is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 player in the state of Michigan and the No. 16 offensive tackle in the nation.
The Vols only recently offered Benny (in February), but UT actually has a strong connection to the Michigan native.
Benny attends the same high school as former Tennessee running back John Kelly.
Kelly was signed by previous Vols head coach Butch Jones, and he never played for current UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt, but there's still a strong connection between Oak Park high school and Tennessee.
According to Rivals, Oak Park feels like UT was able to "get the most" out of Kelly during his time in Knoxville. That could be helpful in Tennessee's pursuit of Benny.
It's still obviously way too early to predict where Benny will land (especially with the ongoing coronavirus related shutdown), but the Vols should certainly be a big factor for the highly rated offensive lineman.
247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu describes Benny as a player with "natural athleticism and intangibles are that of a multi-year Power 5 starter".
Tennessee currently has 10 players committed to their 2021 recruiting class.
