Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was expected to take a big step forward in his second year with the New York Giants.

Hyatt, though, barely saw the field for the Giants in 2024, despite New York's coaches heaping praise on the former Vol before the start of the season.

After catching 23 passes for 373 yards as a rookie in 2023, Hyatt caught just eight passes for 62 yards (on 19 targets) in 2024.

There's been some speculation that maybe the Giants are preparing to move on from Hyatt, a third round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, at some point this offseason.

The Athletic's Dan Duggan, however, doesn't necessarily think that's the case.

Duggan listed Hyatt as one of the Giants' big winners this offseason due to the fact that New York didn't make any big-time additions at the wide receiver position.

From The Athletic: The Giants didn’t sign any notable wide receivers in free agency. They also didn’t draft any receivers. That leaves Hyatt’s position on the roster as strong as it was last year despite an eight-catch, 62-yard season. The biggest win for Hyatt was the signing of quarterback Russell Wilson, who should accentuate the speedster’s strength of catching deep balls. Even if the pre-draft criticisms of Hyatt as a one-trick pony prove accurate, Wilson gives him a chance to maximize that skill more than any other quarterback available this offseason.

Part of the reason Hyatt hasn't had more success in New York is because the Giants' quarterback situation has been a mess (the same goes for the offensive line situation in New York). But with the franchise moving on from Daniel Jones and bringing in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, Hyatt should benefit from some stability at that position.

Hyatt still has a few roadblocks to deal with — Darius Slayton and Wan'Dale Robinson are still ahead of him on the depth chart — but the former Vol is essentially just a snap away from becoming a key player in the Giants' offense.
