Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton is already receiving some Heisman hype despite the 2022 season just ending last week.

247Sports listed Milton this week — via odds from Fan Duel — as one of 13 Heisman hopefuls for the 2023 season.

From 247Sports:

Tennessee's offense may not miss a beat with Joe Milton under center as opposed to Hendon Hooker in 2023, though there is a vast production loss at the wideout spot. At 20/1, Milton would be a great value pick if you're a believer in the Volunteers once again being a factor in the SEC East race behind two-time defending national champion Georgia. Milton has a rocket arm and has patiently waited his turn to shine in Knoxville. That comes in 2023.

It's not a surprise that Milton is already receiving some Heisman Hype.

Milton has one of the strongest arms I've ever seen. And he's a big guy — 6-foot-5/245 lbs — which makes him a difficult player to tackle. If he can be consistent, the tools are there for Milton to be a superstar in the SEC.

247Sports noted that Tennessee is losing quite a bit of production at the wide receiver production and suggested that could hurt Milton in 2023. While's it true that Tennessee is losing some talent at wide receiver (Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman are big losses), it's not like the cupboard is bare.

Bru McCoy, Ramel Keyton, and Squirrel White will return in 2023. The Vols also added Oregon transfer wide receiver Dont'e Thornton to the roster this offseason. Thornton is a 6-foot-5 wide receiver with 4.43 speed.

Between White, Thornton, and Keyton, there will be no shortage of big play options for Milton.

McCoy is also capable of big plays, but where he really excels is in intermediate routes where he can use his physicality.

As long as Milton can limit the overthrows — something that plagued him early in 2021, but seemed to get much better in 2022 — he should be in the Heisman conversation throughout the 2023 season.
