If the Tennessee Vols are interested in pursuing Oklahoma QB Austin Kendall, who was once committed to UT, they're out of luck.

Oklahoma, who just added grad transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts on Wednesday, is blocking Kendall from transferring to other Big 12 schools or any program that is on the Sooners' schedule the next two years.

To be clear, there's no indication that Tennessee is pursuing or will pursue Kendall. But he's a talented quarterback who was once rated as the No. 9 pro-style quarterback in the nation. It wouldn't be a shock if Jeremy Pruitt and the current Vol staff had some interest in Kendall.

Logistically, Tennessee would make sense as a transfer destination for Kendall, who is from North Carolina.

Kendall's hometown of Waxhaw, NC is a four hour drive from Knoxville. That sounds a lot better than a 17 hour drive from Norman (or an expensive plane ticket).

The North Carolina native has plenty of options outside of the Big 12 and future OU opponents. Kendall recently took a visit to Auburn, who could be in the market for a new quarterback with Jarrett Stidham on the way to the NFL.

But it's still not a good look for the Sooners to block Kendall from transferring to a school of his choice after essentially recruiting over him by taking Hurts. I don't think there's any doubt that Hurts will be the starter in Norman next season, which makes it an easy choice for Kendall to transfer.

Hopefully for Kendall's sake, Oklahoma will come to their sense and give the young quarterback a full release.

Update:

It appears Oklahoma is giving Kendall his full release, but he'll be going to West Virginia.
