The Tennessee Vols received some good news on Tuesday in their pursuit of an elite in-state five-star recruit.

2027 five-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman, a former Oregon Ducks commit, is one of the Vols’ top recruiting targets, but two other programs have surged to the top of his recruitment over the last couple of months.

The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Miami Hurricanes have been viewed as the top two schools for Bowman in recent weeks.

“The former Oregon commit has been torn down the stretch, and Miami has given the Tennessee playmaker plenty to think about,” wrote On3’s Chad Simmons earlier this month. “(Miami wide receivers coach) Kevin Beard and the Hurricanes are pushing hard, and the NIL component will be a factor. How the Hurricanes are playing has had an impact too. Vanderbilt is doing everything it can to keep him home — the staff will be in next week, and Miami is expected as well. Vanderbilt still has momentum, but this one is tight.”

Bowman, 6-foot-1/174 pounds from Brentwood, TN, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 6 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee.

Kesean Bowman reportedly pushes his commitment date back for a second time

Bowman recently moved his commitment date from Feb. 10 to Feb. 12.

Now he’s pushed it back again.

Bowman, who is slated to visit Nebraska this weekend, told On3 on Tuesday that he’s moved his commitment date back “until further notice”.

“I am just not ready,” said Bowman to On3. “I have had some big conversations with schools the last few weeks, and I am going to push my commitment date until further notice.”

It’s unclear exactly where the Vols stand in Bowman’s recruitment at this moment, but On3’s Chad Simmons noted that Tennessee is “aggressively” pursuing the five-star wide receiver.

Regardless of where Tennessee stands in Bowman’s recruitment, it’s good news for the Vols that Bowman is pushing his commitment date back. The extra time will give Tennessee a real chance to pass Miami and Vanderbilt in this battle.
