Things aren’t going well out west for former Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
Iamaleava is off to an 0-2 start as the UCLA Bruins’ starting quarterback after Saturday night’s 30-23 loss to the UNLV Rebels.
The former Tennessee quarterback passed for 255 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the loss. Iamaleava also rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Iamaleava’s lone interception came on UCLA’s final drive of the game, which essentially sealed the win for UNLV.
UNLV defensive back talked trash to Nico Iamaleava and then backed it up
UNLV defensive back Aamaris Brown generated plenty of headlines before the matchup against UCLA via his trash talk directed at Iamaleava.
“Nothing really sticks out to me about him, honestly,” said Brown last week when asked about Iamaleava. “You know in the past, there’s been talk about ‘five-star this, five-star that.’ I have been around plenty of five-star and four-stars — it don’t scare me. I have played competition technically higher than them, including Alabama and all that. Going against a guy like Nico, there’s no surprise, no excitement or nothing like that.”
Brown effectively ended the game on Saturday night when he intercepted Iamaleava’s pass after the Bruins moved the ball into UNLV territory.
I’m usually of the mindset that it’s not a good idea to talk trash to your opponent before a big game (why give them extra motivation). But if you’re going to talk trash, you must back it up.
Brown certainly backed it up on Saturday night in UNLV’s win against UCLA.
