Baseball season has arrived.
The Tennessee Vols will kick off the 2024 season on Friday at 8:00 PM ET with a game against Texas Tech in Arlington, TX in the Shriners Children's College Showdown.
Tennessee will then play Oklahoma on Saturday at 8:00 PM ET and Baylor on Sunday at 7:30 PM ET to wrap up the first weekend of the season (each game this weekend will be played in Arlington).
The Vols are replacing several key players this season with guys like RHP Chase Dollander, SS Maui Ahuna, and RHP Andrew Lindsey, among others, off to MLB.
Tennessee also lost RHP Chase Burns, a flamethrower, to Wake Forest.
Despite those losses, On3 still believes the Vols will be one of the eight programs that makes it to the College World Series later this summer.
From On3: Losing eight players to the MLB Draft was a blow for Tennessee, but they responded by being aggressive in the transfer portal. The lineup returners include Blake Burke, Christian Moore, Hunter Ensley and Dylan Dreiling, among others. Freshman Ariel Antigua is set to take over at shortstop, while a pair of transfers could instantly become key parts of the heart of the lineup. Former NC State catcher Cannon Peebles is here after hitting .352 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI as a freshman in Raleigh. He is joined by Clemson transfer third baseman Billy Amick, who hit .413 last year with 13 home runs and 63 RBI.
If Tennessee can solidify the rotation behind (Drew) Beam, they’ll be in good shape. At the least, they’ll have a few options to pick from in the bullpen, with a tremendous lineup hopefully spotting them plenty of runs.
Arkansas, Duke, Florida, Iowa, LSU, Oregon State, and Wake Forest are the other teams that On3 has making it to Omaha.
Tennessee will host LSU in April and they'll travel to Gainesville in May to take on Florida. The Vols don't play Arkansas in the regular season this year.
