Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Micah Abernathy has been with the Green Bay Packers for less than a month, but he's already made an impact.
On Friday night, Abernathy came down with a key interception in the second quarter as the New Orleans Saints were driving down the field.
Abernathy made the play while impressively staying inbounds.
Abernathy, who signed with the Packers on August 10, said after the game that he didn't know if he managed to stay in bounds when he first made the interception.
“Actually, my coaches called it out," said Abernathy (via PackersNews.com). "Coach (Jerry) Gray called it out from the sidelines. We actually got that play this week. I got that same play this week and I didn’t make it in practice. So I just try to go out there and make the catch…I didn’t know if I was (inbounds) but I was gonna act like I was.”
Abernathy, who spent time in the USFL recently, is fighting for a roster spot with the Packers.
The former Tennessee defensive back has his work cut out for him, but Friday night's interception — combined with an impressive tackle for loss he also made against the Saints — should certainly help his case.
