Hooker Titans extend extension contract safety

The Tennessee Titans made a great decision on Friday. They extended young safety Amani Hooker. Alongside Kevin Byard, the Titans now have one of the best safety tandems in the NFL for the foreseeable future.

Reports swirled this week that the Titans could make a move with one or more of their young talents. Hooker and defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons were at the forefront. The Titans have been working on contract extensions with both of them for some time now.

They got it done with Hooker right before the seasons starts.

That being said, Hooker's deal could spell doom for another Titans defender when it comes to a contract. Linebacker David Long Jr. has developed into a really nice player for the Titans. He is also due for a contract extension soon, and he deserves it.

Long Jr. is in the final year of his contract with the Titans.

The salary cap is real, and it would probably take a bit of finagling by the Titans in order to get an extension done for Simmons and Long Jr. after Hooker's extension.

They could certainly make it happen, but will they push money down the road to keep a linebacker in the fold? Only time will tell.

Long Jr. is clearly the team's top linebacker right now, though, so losing him in the future would be tough.
