The New York Jets are doing a little roster reshuffling this week as they try and get ready to face the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The Jets released Hard Knocks fan favorite Tanzel Smart was released from the practice squad in a move to resign Irv Charles after he was cut from the 53-man roster to make room for now backup QB Tim Boyle.

The Jets also signed a familiar face, bringing in offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi to the practice squad and releasing OT Ryan Swoboda

Charles made the Jets 53-man roster out of training camp, but with Brandin Echols returning from serving his one game suspension, Charles was the odd man out and cut to the practice squad.

The Jets might not be done with Tanzel Smart despite the news.  The Jets currently have two kickers on the roster after they were forced to sign Austin Seibert when Greg Zuerlein was unable to go against the Dallas Cowboys with a groin injury.

The Jets might have some sort of handshake agreement with Smart to bring him back into the fold once Seibert is no longer needed on the roster.

Smart is a hard working locker room guy that the Jets would miss around the facility.  If he didn't leave after he was initially cut out of training camp, I can't see him leaving now as Joe Douglas plays with the roster.

Cedric Ogbuehi might be a name Jets fans recognize from last season.  The former first-round pick out of Texas A&M played seven games for the Jets last season and actually started five of them.

He resigned with the Jets in April, but as the Frank Sinatra song says he was cut (down) in May.  Following his cut, he joined the Miami Dolphins and was released on the last day of cutdowns.

Ogbuehi has also had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens since he was drafted in 2015.

Swoboda was an undrafted free agent this past season who originally signed with the Detroit Lions before making his way to the Jets after training camp.  Swoboda played at Virginia and his final season UCF.

As the great philosopher Yogi Berra said, "it's getting late early" for the Jets and their shaky offensive line. The Jets appear to be ready to throw the proverbial poop at the wall and see what sticks.
