Throughout the course of the week, players from all across the country (and one from Canada's U Sports) come down to Mobile, Alabama to showcase their abilities against the best that college football has to offer.
It's a very important part of the process, especially since it allows players from the lower levels of college football showcase their abilities against the best the league has to offer.
Our own Destin Adams will be discussing the players who were the best from practices, but not everyone had banner days. These are the players who struggled across the first day of practice.
West Virginia OL Wyatt Milum
The offensive line class doesn't have one player who stands out above the rest. There are some talented players, but nobody that has truly stood out above the rest. There was a real opportunity for Milum to do that, but he stumbled out of the gates.
He might weigh 315 lbs, but Milum has the build of a tight end and struggled dealing with power and quickness on the inside. It didn't matter who was going up against him, it didn't go well for Milum. There are two more days for him to take a step forward, but it wasn't a great start.
Arizona OT Jonah Savaiinaea
Speaking of offensive linemen, Savaiinaea was one of those players who could have taken a step forward in this class. A right tackle at Arizona, some have Savaiinaea moving inside to guard and that case got stronger today.
Savaiinaea had a really nice scoop block on outside zone, but struggled across the board to handle the really talented group of edge rushers in both run and pass protection.
South Carolina EDGE Kyle Kennard
The group of defensive linemen in Mobile is among the most well rounded groups we've see in Mobile in some time. There are true first round talents across the entire defensive line, meaning you need to ensure you stand out.
One player that didn't stand out as much as you would hope is Kennard. He didn't show any real fluidity during drills, instead looking like a plank. With other players here who can showcase a bit of everything, especially athleticism, Kennard put himself at a big disadvantage.
Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart
The one position without a truly premiere player is the quarterback position. Usually, there is one first-round prospect with a top 10 guy often being here (Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert). This year, there isn't a first round prospect in the group, but there is one player that has gotten buzz and his day wasn't great.
Dart came in with a lot of fanfare, especially when it comes to being a potential riser in the class. Ultimately, he had a rough day. Dart didn't throw the ball particularly well, and ended up fumbling the ball three times with under-center snaps. Considering the transition that Dart will have to make, that's not a good sign.
Arkansas EDGE Landon Jackson
We spoke earlier about edge rushers needing to have a really good day, especially with the draft class. Ultimately, it wasn't a great day for another potential first-round pick in Jackson, but it wasn't al his fault.
The big thing with Jackson is his size and length. Standing at 6' 5 1/2" with 33 5/8" arms, Jackson is at his best working at 5T or kicking inside to 3T. Where he struggled was kicking out to a wide nine and trying to rush around the arc. He couldn't get it done and that manifested itself in a poor way.
