The Miami Dolphins are entering an extremely murky portion of the Mike McDaniel era as the head coach for the organization. It appears that the next stage will be without seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who mutually agreed to explore transfer options. It appears highly likely that the two sides could be parting ways, and Ramsey could have a new team in 2025.
With Ramsey potentially out of the fold, cornerback just became a much larger need for the Dolphins heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. Luckily for the team, it is a deep and talented cornerback class. While it’s unlikely that they find someone as impactful as Ramsey, at least early on, there are options to keep a close eye on.
Will Johnson (Michigan)
There may not be a better Ramsey replacement who could potentially be on the board at No. 13 than Johnson. He boasts a bigger frame, is extremely physical, and very instinctual. Johnson is a pure outside cornerback, but could also play some in the slot if the need be, similarly to Ramsey.
Jahdae Barron (Texas)
While Johnson might be the easiest fit, there’s a possibility that Barron comes off the board first. He isn’t as big, but Barron also does bring some outside and in versatility. Barron is a very physical player and could excel in the nickel, as well as being a good player on the outside in the right system.
Azareye’h Thomas (Florida State)
There isn’t a better press man cornerback in the 2025 class than Thomas. If the Dolphins opt to trade back from 13, Thomas could be in play later in the first round. He is extremely long and very physical at the line of scrimmage. The long speed isn’t anything special but his change of direction is very good for his size. That combination is impressive outside.
Justin Walley (Minnesota)
This one is a little off the wall, but Walley is one of the more underrated defensive backs in this class. There’s a possibility that he could be in the range at pick No. 48, but would also be a great value at No. 98. Despite being a smaller cornerback at 5-10, Walley is very physical, and a good overall athlete to develop into a good starter.
Georgia LB Jalon Walker is towing a dangerous line ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft officially kicking off
Jalon Walker, tweener or versatile?
