Pros of Keith Abney II
- One of the stickiest corners in the class, quick fluid movement ability to mirror opposing receivers movements, and is especially present in his man coverage reps. Abney allowed a 44.4% completion percentage on 32 receptions in his final year at Arizona State.
- Incredibly versatile and an all-around complete cornerback technique-wise. Can play at the boundary and inside at nickel. Abney’s versatility translates to his consistent play style, excelling in both man and zone coverage. Some of the best ability in the class at tracking the ball, he intercepted five passes over his three year career, including two in 2025.
- Not afraid to put his body on the line in run defense. Recorded 39 total tackles and only two missed tackles in 2025.
Cons of Keith Abney II
- Stickier play style means Abney will grab receivers’ jerseys on occasion and will lead to penalties at the next level as its the one real area he needs to clean up in. Abney was penalized six times in 2025, and seven times in 2024.
- Smaller frame and size than a typical starting corner, especially for the boundary. Smaller arms and wingspan will make it harder to defend bigger bodied opponents at the next level.
- Below average recovery speed. When Abney gets beat, he tends to get beat bad.
Background
Abney is a former three star cornerback who played all three years for the Sun Devils. He became a starter in 2024 and never looked back, become a pivotal piece to Arizona State’s playoff run. Abney started all 12 games in both 2024 and 2025, totaling five interceptions and 15 pass breakups in his true sophomore and junior seasons.
Player Evaluation
Abney is one of the more complete cornerback packages in this years’ draft class. An extremely versatile player, Abney’s stickiness in coverage and excellent tracking skills will allow him to play at both positions at the next level. His habit of grabbing on to receivers in man coverage will cause issues at the next level, but if Abney is able to refine his technique, he has the ability to be one of the most plug and play prospects in the class.
