Derrick Henry does something he’s never done before to help fuel Ravens’ 38-30 loss to Lions on Monday Night Football
Derrick Henry’s fumble streak has played a hand in both of Baltimore’s 2025 losses thus far. How out of character is this stretch?
The Baltimore Ravens wake up this morning at 1-2. It’s a frustrating development for a team with major aspirations to find themselves with a losing record ahead of a chance to go toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 — and someone will leave that game at 1-3. The Ravens’ defense betrayed them on Monday night against the Detroit Lions, conceding 224 yards on the ground and 38 points.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Ravens endured their own shortcomings and failures. The seven sacks of Lamar Jackson is alarming. But Derrick Henry‘s third fumble in as many games takes the cake. The Ravens took possession of the ball trailing Detroit 28-24 from their own 21-yard-line near the midway point of the fourth quarter, only to see Henry have the ball punched out by defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson on the first play of the series.
Detroit took over and turned the game into a full touchdown lead that they would not relinquish. How rare are Henry’s fumble issues? By at least one measure, it’s unprecedented.
Derrick Henry sets a career-worst mark with consecutive weeks with a fumble

Henry has now fumbled in each of the first three games on Baltimore’s schedule — he’d never had three consecutive weeks with a fumble before in his 10-year career in the NFL. He has fumbled twice in consecutive weeks twice before, plus one time with two fumbles in the same game:
– Weeks 12 & 13 of the 2019 season with Tennessee. Henry lost both fumbles in opponent territory. The games were played against Jacksonville and Indianapolis.
– Weeks 15 & 16 of the 2022 season with Tennessee. Henry fumbled against the Chargers but the Titans kept possession of the football and then, the following week against the Texans, saw Henry turn the ball over.
– Week 17 of the 2021 season saw Henry fumble the ball twice against the Houston Texans. Henry lost one of the two fumbles for the Titans in a three-point Tennessee victory.
This surely isn’t what the Ravens had in mind when they doubled down on Derrick Henry with a two-year contract extension this offseason. Across nearly 2,600 career rushing attempts in the NFL, Henry has lost a grand total of nine fumbles. Two of them have come backed up in Baltimore’s own territory against Super Bowl contenders late in the fourth quarter over the last three weeks. There’s plenty of time for Henry and the Ravens to get themselves collected and right the ship. And the silver lining for Henry is he’s still unquestionably impactful as a runner.
The Ravens need him to put the fumble issues behind him, pronto. The Chiefs are a desperate bunch of their own and they’ll be sure to come swiping at the football when Baltimore gives Henry his touches next weekend. Here’s to not making a career-worst stretch even worse.
