The Baltimore Ravens are in a tailspin. Usually, in those instances, a franchise quarterback can be just what the doctor ordered to right the ship. For Baltimore, Lamar Jackson has been a productive player but he’s not gotten any help from his defense to get the team into the win column. But now, it seems like the 1-3 Ravens are going to need to try to push some buttons and get back into the win column without Jackson.

A report from the Baltimore Sun on Tuesday afternoon has tabbed Jackson as unexpected to play in the Ravens’ Week 5 contest against the Houston Texans. And it could be worse than that.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson could miss 2-3 weeks, per report

Per Brian Wacker of the Baltimore Sun, Jackson is “unlikely” to play in Week 5 against the Texans and could miss “2-3 weeks” with the hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for the final portions of Baltimore’s Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Such a development would be simply the latest devastating turn for Baltimore on the injury front this season — it may be quicker to list the names of the players who have not been injured that to list the ones that have.

Baltimore Ravens upcoming schedule

  • Week 5: Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Week 6: Los Angeles Rams @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Week 7: Bye Week
  • Week 8: Chicago Bears @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Week 9: Baltimore Ravens @ Miami Dolphins (Thursday Night Football)

What does Baltimore have to look forward to if Jackson is unable to go? Backup quarterback Cooper Rush would presumably take the helm. Rush oversaw the final stages of the Chiefs game and, most notably, threw the ball away on fourth down while trying to engineer a comeback for the Ravens. If Baltimore indeed needs to survive without Jackson, look for a heavy dose of the ground game in an effort to right the ship. Derrick Henry has struggled with ball security but this team needs to get him going regardless.

Against a tough Houston Texans pass defense, that will be even more important as the Texans try to dig themselves out of a 1-3 hole themselves.
