The Baltimore Ravens enjoyed an exciting, electric, and productive preseason debut to open their 2025 campaign. The Ravens posted a 24-16 victory against the Indianapolis Colts. The win showcased a number of promising role players and young talents for Baltimore, but it did not come without a cost. Baltimore lost one of their young, promising draft picks from this April due to an early injury in the game and the early reports are not good.

Sixth-round rookie cornerback Bilhal Kone was carted off the field with an air-cast on his leg and was quickly ruled out due to the knee injury he suffered defending a shot deep downfield in coverage.

Ravens sixth-round cornerback Bilhal Kone reportedly suffers major knee injury

According to a report from Jordan Schultz, Kone has suffered a major structural knee injury. The presence of the air-cast and the reaction of both Kone and those who came to his aid on the field offered little doubt that the injury was an intense one.

Kone was a favorite Day 3 target of many draftniks in the pre-draft process and appeared to have landed in a great opportunity to carve out a depth role as a rookie for the Ravens in 2025. Baltimore made Kone the 178th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan — he was the first of five sixth-round draft picks for the Ravens this past spring.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh gave an update on Kone’s status in the post-game press conference, confirming that he does indeed have a ligament tear in his knee.

“(Kone) is going to be out for the season, it looks like. He has a torn ligament in his knee unfortunately. So I can just tell you that right now.”

Injuries are always a part of football but it’s never an easy pill to swallow, especially during the exhibition season. Kone will now look toward the road to recovery and the Ravens will have to re-calibrate their outlook for the roster competition in the secondary over the next few weeks.
