The Miami Dolphins have reached out to multiple coaches from around the NFL regarding their defensive coordinator opening, including Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach Anthony Weaver.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini noted on Thursday that the Dolphins "will interview" Weaver for their defensive coordinator vacancy. Miami has been on the lookout for a new defensive coordinator since it parted ways with Vic Fangio last month.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked during an end-of-season press conference on Friday whether Weaver will stay put with the team for the 2024 season. Harbaugh took some time to laud the defensive-minded coach.
"He’s still involved with the Dolphins defensive coordinator job, and we’ll see," Harbaugh said. "If he gets that job, I’ll be happy for him, if he takes the job. I don’t even know if he will take it if he gets offered. He’s involved in that job.
"Maybe I’m speaking out of turn, maybe I’ll get in trouble, there’s a league rule against this, but he will be a great head coach. He didn’t get hired this cycle, and great coaches got hired, but someday, some people are going to look back, and they’re going to say, ‘We had a chance to hire Anthony Weaver.’ I guarantee you that. They’re going to see that they missed their chance."
Weaver interviewed with both the Washington Commanders and the Atlanta Falcons last month regarding their head coaching openings. The Commanders decided to hire now-former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for the role, while the Falcons hired now-former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to replace Arthur Smith.
Weaver joined Baltimore in Jan. 2021 as both a defensive line coach and run game coordinator. He has since helped to get the best out of multiple Ravens defensive linemen, including Justin Madubuike, who led the team in sacks (13.0) this season.
