Running back Derrick Henry had another dominant performance in the Baltimore Ravens' 30-23 Week 6 win over the Washington Commanders.

Henry rushed the ball 24 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns on the day. He has eclipsed 100 yards in three of his last four games and is averaging an unbelievable 5.9 yards per carry on the season. Henry by far leads the NFL in both rushing yards with 704 and touchdowns with eight.

At his current pace, Henry will have a shot at another 2,000 yard season, his first coming back in 2020 with the Tennessee Titans. His hot start to the 2024 season is all the more impressive considering he's doing it at 30 years old, the dreaded fall-off age for running backs.

All of these factors have led to a big time prediction from Good Morning Football host Kyle Brandt, who thinks that Henry is the current front runner for NFL MVP.

It's not a far fetched prediction by Brandt. Not only does he have the gaudy stats that we just highlighted, but there is no other player that is significantly standing out at their position. A running back hasn't won MVP since Adrian Peterson did it in 2012, with nothing but quarterbacks winning the award since.

Make no mistakes, it's going to be an uphill battle for Henry to win it even if he maintains his current pace. Fair or not, quarterbacks are always going to get top consideration for MVP. Ironically, Henry's biggest competition for the award might be his teammate Lamar Jackson.

Jackson ranks in the top 10 among quarterbacks in passing yards and touchdowns, and of course easily leads all QBs in rushing yards, coming in at eighth overall in the league. Henry and Jackson have a chance to go down as the most lethal rushing duo in NFL history.

If Henry is able to win MVP at his age and position, it will be one of the most historic seasons by a player in NFL history. The Ravens have been on fire since Henry kicked it into gear in Week 3, winning four consecutive games. Going back to Brandt's comments, he did fairly caution that they could reign Henry in a bit to preserve him for the postseason.

It would be wise not to run him into the ground and have him fresh for the playoffs, but it would definitely hurt his MVP chances. When Baltimore brought Henry in during the offseason, it believed he was the missing piece to get the team over the hump and into the Super Bowl, which Henry would likely prefer over any individual award.
