The Baltimore Ravens are signing cornerback Chidobe Awuzie to a one-year contract.

Awuzie is an eight-year NFL veteran who began his career as a second-round pick by the Cowboys. He made 42 starts during his four year stint in Dallas, but an injury riddled 2020 season led to his release. Awuzie landed on his feet by signing a three-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, starting 32 games for them during that span.

The best season of his career came with the Bengals in 2021, recording 64 total tackles, 14 passes defensed, and two interceptions. Although Cincinnati lost the game, Awuzie grabbed his first career postseason interception during Super Bowl LVI. Awuzie was off to another stellar start in 2022, but unfortunately tore his ACL in Week 8.

He had more injury woes in 2023, this time with a herniated disc in his back. That limited Awuzie to 10 starts that year, and the Bengals let him walk in free agency after the season. Awuzie then signed a three-year contract with the Tennessee Titans and was named the Week 1 starter opposite L'Jarius Sneed.

However, the injury bug bit Awuzie again as he spent 10 weeks on injured reserve with a groin injury. Despite having two more years left on his deal, the Titans decided to cut ties with him. Awuzie turns 30 next month, and will need to find a way to stay healthy if he's going to prolong his playing career.

Signing Awuzie is a low-risk, potential high-reward move for the Ravens. He's played pretty well when healthy, and if he can find his old form he will be a steal for Baltimore. If he continues to struggle with injuries, Baltimore isn't really out anything as he signed for a minimum deal, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cornerback is arguably the Ravens' biggest position of need, so the signing Awuzie gives them another quality player at the position. Acquiring Awuzie certainly does not mean that Baltimore won't draft a CB with one of its early picks. I would expect the Ravens to not only draft one in either the first or second round, but take multiple CBs with their whopping 11 selections.
