Bills chance of landing A.J. Brown just become crystal clear with latest update from NFL insider
The asking price just might be too high for Buffalo.
The Buffalo Bills are in the market for a wide receiver. They are expected to acquire DJ Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears, and we’ll see if that’s enough for the front office. Almost every available top pass-catcher has been linked to Buffalo in some capacity, with fans excited about the prospect of getting quarterback Josh Allen some much-needed help in that department.
One of the biggest names tied to Buffalo in some capacity is that of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. Brown has been vocal about his displeasure with the Eagles organization and is looking for a new home, and Buffalo could be a perfect fit for the talented pass-catcher.
A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up, but Philly is asking for way too much
News broke about what the Eagles are looking for in return, giving general manager Brandon Beane an inside look at what it’ll take to get the job done if he’s serious about adding Brown to the roster. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo spoke about the asking price, and Bills Mafia won’t be too thrilled. It’s the price to pay for a player who is as exceptional as Brown, but it’s still steep — especially because the Bills already used some draft capital to acquire Moore.
“My understanding is teams are making offers to the Eagles for a trade, and to this point they have not gotten to the point at which the Eagles would make the move,” Garafolo said. “In their mind, it’s a Quinnen Williams-type deal. We’re talking a potential first-round pick with a second-round sweetener on it. That’s kind of where it is for the Eagles to start to consider moving A.J. Brown.”
The first- and second-round picks might be a little unserious, but it’s the price to pay for elite talent — even though the Eagles paid less than that to acquire Brown from the Tennessee Titans in the first place. Even the Patriots believe so, as the Boston Herald reported that New England has explored trade talks but feels as though the conversation has gone off the rails in terms of asking price.
Brandon Beane should stay put if Philadelphia won’t budge on its demands
If I’m Brandon Beane, I’m hesitant to make this deal. Yes, Josh Allen needs some help, and it needs to be the highest priority. However, that’s a lot of the team’s future and a lot of cap space to bring in Brown, who has his own issues that Bills Mafia is all too familiar with. That, and the decision to bring in Moore, makes things even more difficult to land another playmaker like Brown. It’s reminiscent of the Stefon Diggs era in Buffalo. A really solid player who is very vocal when they are unhappy, and somehow, they are unhappy quite a bit. It’s just too steep a price, in my opinion, to bring in Brown.
Buffalo is currently sitting near the bottom of the league in terms of available cap space, and Brown’s 2026 cap hit is sitting at over $23 million. There’s always money in the banana stand, but even this price tag might be too steep for Buffalo to overcome. Especially considering all the other holes in the roster, sending a first and second round pick and paying all that money might be irresponsible.
There’s no doubt A.J. Brown would make life easier for Josh Allen. But giving up first- and second-round picks while also taking on a massive contract for a player with a history of frustration might not be the smartest way to build a contender. Especially considering the team is trading for D.J. Moore, who already has a massive contract himself.
Sometimes the best move in the NFL isn’t the splashy one, it’s the one that keeps your future intact. Brown just might not move the needle enough, especially after the trade for Moore.
