Bills’ Brandon Beane could be gearing up to take a major swing in free agency with latest contract decision
Could the Buffalo Bills be planning on making a splash?
The Buffalo Bills are nearly cap-compliant, and it only took them one move in the early morning of day three of the legal tampering period. Buffalo was sitting at the bottom of the league in available cap space, according to Over The Cap, but not anymore.
It’s been reported that the Buffalo Bills have freed up $12 million in cap space by restructuring the contract of quarterback Josh Allen. It’s a sign of a potential big move to come for the Bills. All of that available cap space has to mean something is coming.
The Bills converted $15.1 million of Allen’s salary into a signing bonus, according to Spotrac.
The Bills could make a splash and land Maxx Crosby
With the recent influx of cash coming to One Bills Drive, it allows Buffalo to take a swing at a potential big-name target, and perhaps the biggest is that of Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby. He’s a true difference-maker and would make an immediate impact. The Bills would need to make a few more restructures to make it happen, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Crosby shook up the NFL landscape late on Tuesday, with the Baltimore Ravens backing out of the deal after mixed reports of a failed physical. Now, the price may have gone down for Crosby after he was initially traded for a pair of first-round picks. With the price now going down, could we see general manager Brandon Beane try to get a deal done?
After Trey Hendrickson went to the Baltimore Ravens early Tuesday, Crosby is undoubtedly the best pass rusher out there, and if Beane wants to maximize Allen’s prime and boost Jim Leonhard’s new defense, getting a player like Crosby would be huge.
Buffalo has the cash to make some deals happen after being relatively quiet during the first two days of legal tampering. That, and they’re about to get even more cash heading their way after the deal for wide receiver DJ Moore is finalized, potentially reducing his cap to $6.8 million in 2026.
With Allen restructuring his deal, Buffalo has officially given itself the flexibility to make something happen. Whether it’s Crosby or another big-name addition, the Bills suddenly have the resources to strike. It may not be the initial $40 million in cap space that was reported early on, but it gives the team a little wiggle room with more options down the road if they need more cash. A few more restructures could be in order, but it’s a good first step toward making a big move.
For a team that looked box in financially just a few days ago, the message from One Bills Drive is clear: the window is still wide open, and Buffalo isn’t afraid to push its chips to the middle of the table while Josh Allen is under center.
