Von Miller learned of Leslie Frazier firing via phone call from Bills HC
The Buffalo Bills NFL offseason is off to a wild start.
Buffalo Bills superstar pass rusher, Von Miller, opened up about the franchise in one of the most candid moments in recent memory.
Bills Mafia knows all too well how the organization likes to keep things tight-lipped. A perfect example, in fact, was the signing of Von Miller. Leading up to the decision, there were no reports of Miller linked to Buffalo.
This is all to say that Brandon Beane, Sean McDermott, and the front office like to keep everything close to the vest. The All-Pro pass rusher revealed how he learned about the Leslie Frazier news.
While it's not paramount that Von Miller is informed of all the inner workings of the organization, it's not uncommon for big-name players, especially leaders, to be in the know of what's going on.
The more concerning part of the interaction with Sean McDermott was what Miller asked next, a question that all of Bills Mafia has been wondering since Frazier's abrupt departure: "Who's gonna call the defense?"
From an outsider looking in, it's a valid question to ask your head coach and allows doubt to creep in. Was Frazier a big part of his decision to come to Buffalo? Will the defense work differently with him out? Are there going to be other sweeping changes coming out of nowhere?
If the team starts to doubt the leadership and what's going on within the organization, it could be deadly for a franchise. Buffalo has been exceptional with culture since Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott took over and it's vitally important to keep that culture alive and well.
One Bills Drive has plenty of pressing concerns coming into the next NFL season and distractions outside of football are the last thing the team needs. Here's hoping that an issue from an optics standpoint isn't a precursor for more issues down the road.
With two All-Pro starting caliber players being due for a contract and no end in sight, there are a handful of concerns starting to creep up with this offseason.
Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott have their work cut out for them. These next few weeks are going to be telling. Buckle up, Bills Mafia.
