Eric Kendricks release could be the Bills solution to a Tremaine Edmunds departure
The NFL offseason is upon us. Needless to say, it’s only going to get wilder from here.
A recent NFL development has taken the internet by storm.
The Minnesota Vikings, according to Tom Pelissero, are going to be releasing All-Pro linebacker Eric Kendricks.
Kendricks has been a one-man wrecking crew since joining the league. The high-end linebacker has enjoyed an eight-year career tallying 919 combined tackles, nine interceptions, and two touchdowns. The leader of the Vikings' defense will immediately have a market for his services.
Depending on how the remainder of the offseason goes, Buffalo may be looking for exactly that.
Tremaine Edmunds, a staple to the Buffalo defense since being drafted, is due for a contract with no guarantees in sight. Ultimately, re-signing Edmunds is a decision a large part of the Bills Mafia is hoping for.
Unfortunately, with the current cap space situation, the Bills may have priced themselves out of the Edmunds sweepstakes.
Replacing a starting-caliber linebacker, the signal-caller, and a key piece to the defense is not going to be an easy task. Luckily, over the past few weeks, a number of talented linebackers have been announced to be available. Kendricks was just yet another example of this.
Once the news broke, there was an immediate reaction across the Bills Mafia on Twitter. Plenty of fans were excited at the prospect of a dominant linebacker joining forces with Matt Milano next season, if Edmunds walks.
Regardless, if Tremaine Edmunds is no longer a Buffalo Bill in a matter of a few weeks, Brandon Beane will have his work cut out for him.
Buffalo could very well lose two All-Pro cornerstones on their defense with very few resources to fill those positions.
Plain and simple, Brandon Beane is going to need to work his magic this offseason. Whether it's nailing the draft or doing some contract restructures, the team needs more money in order to deliver on some of the most important defensive positions on the roster.
Buckle up, Bills Mafia. These next few weeks are going to be interesting.
