Bills release inactive report with surprise addition of injury-riddled weapon that has the fan base thinking the same thing
Some fireworks before kickoff.
The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are set to face off in a heavyweight matchup of AFC giants. Buffalo has the reigning MVP in Josh Allen, while Baltimore has the former two-time MVP in Lamar Jackson.
Both offenses are dominant and a focal point in the matchup. However, before a single snap could be played, it was announced that receiver Curtis Samuel would be inactive for the contest. Social media was flooded with the same sentiment: whatever is going on with the receiver, it’s not good.
Social media responds to Curtis Samuel being inactive
The veteran receiver appeared in 14 regular-season contests in 2024, totaling 31 receptions for 253 yards and a touchdown. Nagging injuries forced him to miss time and often kept him from being at full health.
He missed nearly all of training camp while dealing with a hamstring injury, but looked to have turned a corner heading into the regular season. With Samuel a healthy scratch, the team may have thought they had a better chance to compete with Tyrell Shavers and Elijah Moore getting increased touches.
Buffalo Bills inactive report for Week 1
The rest of Buffalo’s inactives were Tre’Davious White, Jordan Hancock, Sedrick Van-Pran Granger, Chase Lundt and Landon Jackson.
White had been trending in the wrong direction, with many assuming rookie Dorian Strong will see an increased role in his absence. White and first-round pick Maxwell Hairston being out means the team is without its No. 2 cornerback alongside Christian Benford.
For Baltimore, the inactives were Reuben Lowery III, Keaton Mitchell, Patrick Ricard, Carson Vinson, Isiah Likely and David Ojabo. Neither team is operating at full strength and is missing a few key guys for the contest on both sides of the football.
Samuel’s history in Buffalo
Samuel has been battling injuries throughout his tenure in Buffalo, missing time throughout the offseason and the regular season.
Samuel was even rumored to be a trade candidate ahead of roster cutdown day because of his inability to stay on the field.
Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reported Samuel could be seen in regular sneakers watching warmups, instead of being in his cleats running routes with the other receiving group, a sign that he’d be out for the contest.
We won’t have to wait long to see what the offense and defense can do against the Ravens, with kickoff looming. For Buffalo on defense, how will they respond with White being out and presumably rookie Dorian Strong filling in? And on offense, what does this new version of the Bills look like with Josh Allen sitting out all of preseason and adding a few new pieces to the mix?
Football is back, and I’m sure there will be plenty more questions once the game ends. For now, it’s a party in Western New York as the Bills Mafia celebrates the last home opener in Highmark Stadium.
Put the tables away, Bills Mafia. Football is finally back.
