The Buffalo Bills were a missed call away from competing in the AFC Championship game. Wide receiver Brandin Cooks absolutely caught that football, as all of Bills Mafia is well aware.

Instead, New England went on to take the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game, and the rest is history. Quarterback Drake Maye and the Patriots are heading to the big dance after going 4-13 the season before. It’s remarkable, and super annoying.

Ahead of the big game, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen gave his prediction for the upcoming Super Bowl. To no one’s surprise, and thankfully, he’s rocking with the Seattle Seahawks to walk away with the victory. Could you have imagined if he were picking the Patriots? Again, gross.

“Listen, I got great respect for both teams,” Allen said. “I’ve been fortunate to know Coach Vrabel for a little bit, have a lot of respect for him. Drake Maye, obviously, got a good relationship with him. But Sam Darnold, that’s my boy. We go back to draft, even before the draft, we hung out before the draft when we were at college. We met at some touchdown club of Columbus, going into his sophomore year, my junior year. We live pretty close together, we spend a lot of time in the offseason together playing golf and hanging out. I’m rooting for my man there, No. 14 for the Seattle Seahawks.”

Darnold is the first quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft to play in a Super Bowl, surpassing Allen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen, and Lamar Jackson. Darnold’s progression over the past two years has been remarkable, dating back to his lone season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Josh Allen has a lot of love for Sam Darnold

While Allen has spent his entire career with the Buffalo Bills, building continuity at One Bills Drive, Darnold has jumped around the league after being drafted by the Jets. He had stints with the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, and now the Seattle Seahawks. He wasn’t given the best hand, but what he’s been able to accomplish is nothing short of remarkable.

“I think early success probably is situation and where you fit into that offense, into that organization,” Allen said. “I’ve been fortunate to be part of this organization, where Mr. Pegula and the whole Pegula family has given us resources for us to win football games. I don’t know if you can say that for maybe Sam, but for a lot of other quarterbacks that have been drafted high. Going into the right spot with the right team around him to go out and make plays early. To Sam’s point, he’s just continued to work hard. He’s been at a few different stops; obviously got his opportunity last year in Minnesota. They let him go, and now he’s playing in the Super Bowl for the Seattle Seahawks. He’s worked extremely hard for it and I got nothing but love and respect for Sammy D, and I’ll be pulling for him hard.”

Allen’s words underline what Bills Mafia already knows: quarterback careers aren’t always fueled by talent alone, but by timing, fit, and opportunity.

Darnold finally found his moment, and Allen is genuinely happy to see his guy cash in on it. Bills fans will grit their teeth, root hard against New England by rooting for Seattle, and hope that the football gods remember Buffalo is still owed after that one disastrous missed call.

It’s all love from No. 17, and we’re also hoping No. 14 takes care of business on the biggest stage.
