Josh Allen proves something in legendary battle against Lamar Jackson that could redefine the Bills’ season
An all-time matchup.
In 2023, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson earned the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award, and many thought that his performance the following season was worthy of earning this honor once again. However, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen also had an impressive season and was ultimately named the 2024 AP NFL MVP.
Thus, a debate began regarding whether Allen or Jackson should have gotten that award last season.
However, based on Allen’s performance in the Bills’ season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, he silenced all those doubters very quickly.
At the end of the third quarter, the Ravens led 34-19. The Bills added a touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but Baltimore responded right after. That left Buffalo trailing by 15 points, but with Allen at the helm, there was too much time left on the clock. And knowing what he is capable of, nobody was ready to officially say this game was over.
The Bills’ defense forced a punt, and Allen led the offense down, scoring a touchdown. That left Buffalo only down by eight points… just one score. And then, the unthinkable happened for the Ravens.
Star running back Derrick Henry fumbled the ball, and the Bills recovered on Baltimore’s 30-yard line. At that point, it was just too easy for Allen to get into the end zone. However, the two-point conversion was unsuccessful, leaving Buffalo needing two points to tie it, or three points to win. And another Baltimore punt, combined with Allen getting them into field goal position, was finished off by a 32-yard field goal by Matt Prater, handing Buffalo a major win.
There’s no denying that Jackson is an incredible quarterback who was very deserving of the 2023 MVP award. But it’s officially time to give Allen his flowers for what he did during the 2024 season.
And it’s clear the Bills quarterback hasn’t missed a beat.
A Matchup Like No Other
The Bills and the Ravens have become quite the rivalry, especially considering the sheer talent on each roster. But of course, it all starts with the quarterbacks.
And after watching this game, it’s clear that this could be one that we see once again in January.
Both of these teams are playoff caliber, and they have a history of facing each other, with an AFC Championship appearance often on the line. So, expect to see the Bills and the Ravens face off one more time this season.
