Bills make quick decision with Joe Brady that could divide the fan base even further hours after he accepted the head coach position
Breathe easy, Bills Mafia.
The Buffalo Bills are moving fast when it comes to their new head coach, Joe Brady. Brady became the 21st head coach in the team’s history after they moved on from former head coach Sean McDermott. McDermott’s departure and Brady’s hiring have divided the fanbase.
Mike Garafolo from ESPN came out with a report that further divided the fanbase with a decision regarding Brady and his head coaching position. According to Garafolo, Brady will continue to call offensive plays as the new head coach in hopes to maintain continuinty between quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense. Just please, throw those bubble screens into the sun.
That’s where the contention from the Bills Mafia arose.
“Sickening,” one user wrote. Another said, “Yup, we’re (expletive).” I think you can glean what they were trying to say there.
“This day just keeps getting worse,” another user wrote underneath Garafolo’s report.
Breathe easy, Bills Mafia, Joe Brady calling plays is a good thing
Continuity was the focus, and fans should be thrilled at what the next few years might bring if 2024 and 2025 were any indication. In 2024, the Bills had 30 rushing and 30 passing touchdowns; they scored the most points in franchise history, and Josh Allen was named MVP. For a play caller who utilizes bubble screens far too much, he did plenty of damage with the unit that he had available.
It continued in 2025. While the fanbase has been clamoring for a top tier reciever threat, Brady was able to do a lot with not a whole lot and put the Bills in a good position. Yes, there were games and moments, like the Houston Texans contest, where Brady fell short. But still, the Buffalo Bills pulled off some incredible things in 2025.
Allen was once again named an MVP finalist, James Cook led the league in rushing yards, and Buffalo was the No. 1 team in the league in terms of rushing yards per game.
Joe Brady has been an excellent play caller for the Buffalo Bills
Taking a look at how Brady ranks compared to the previous offensive coordinators gives an even better example of how great he has been with his playcalling abilities. Yes, Allen is a monster and is one of one in the National Football League, making something out of nothing with the receiver’s lack of separation at times throughout the season, but Brady deserves his flowers, too.
In 39 games, Brady has helped his quarterback have a rating of 102.2, a 5.56 touchdown percentage, 1.63 interception percentage, and a .718 win percentage.
To put that into perspective, he has helped Allen have a higher passer rating than when Brian Daboll was with the team for 67 games, a higher touchdown percentage than Daboll, a lower interception percentage, and a higher win percentage. The same goes for Ken Dorsey; the only difference is that Dorsey had a slightly higher touchdown percentage with 5.71%.
Bottom line: if the goal was to protect Josh Allen, maximize what’s been working, and avoid a full offensive reset, this was the right call. Brady earned the trust to keep his hands on the wheel, even ifn ot every decision is going to be popular in the moment.
Bills Mafia doesn’t have to love it today, but the numbers, the growth, and the results all suggest thisis a move that gives Buffalo its best chance to stay where it belongs among the NFL’s elite.
The only thing I’m wondering is how much changes for Brady calling from the sideline as opposed to the booth, but only time will tell. Again, just throw the ridiculous amount of bubble screens into the sun.
