The hits keep on coming for the Buffalo Bills, even after their season ended.

Buffalo lost to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round, thanks in part to a controversial call in the overtime period, along with at least one questionable defensive pass interference call in the closing moments. Wide receiver Brandin Cooks absolutely caught the football. I will die on that hill.

As for the pass interference calls, cornerback Tre’Davious White was one of the Bills called for a penalty; it was the last one that set Denver up in game-winning field-goal range. White was passionate with his defense, earning an unsportsmanlike penalty for his tirade. Let’s be honest, though, White absolutely should have been called for the penalty, but it wasn’t about that.

The veteran cornerback was emotional, and for good reason. The refs had taken over the game with several questionable calls before that, and White was defending not only himself but his teammates.

White was one of two players fined by the league, with those in the league office deciding the penalties were not enough; they would come out of their bank accounts.

White was fined $14,222 by the league. I’m surprised that Bills Mafia hasn’t started a GoFundMe to pay for his dues. The fan base is known for its charitable donations, for finding ways to give back, and for sticking up for a favorite player.

Tre’Davious White and Joey Bosa fined after divisional round loss vs. Denver Broncos

Defensive end Joey Bosa was the other player. It’s Bosa’s third fine this season, and it came on a particularly bad play from the veteran.

After starting the season hot, Bosa cooled down in the postseason. The play was just frustration pouring out of the talented veteran. Buffalo couldn’t register a sack on quarterback Bo Nix.

Bosa came screaming at the quarterback, hitting him late and resulting in a fine and a penalty.

Bosa’s total fine was $17,389. There was a second penalty called on the play, making Bosa’s incredibly late hit sting just a little bit less. It didn’t sting his pocketbook any less, and Bosa has been in the crosshairs of the NFL all season in terms of infractions.

He was fined $12,172 for fighting in the team’s win against the Carolina Panthers, and $17,389 for roughing the passer in the win against quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his lone season with the Bills, he racked up $46,950 in fines.

In the aftermath of a heated playoff loss, it was clear that frustrations boiled over for more than one Bills defender, and the league added some insult to injury with more bad news for the players and fans.

Emotions ran high in a game that meant everything, and it showed on the field. That edge is part of what makes this Bills team who they are. Just don’t hit the quarterback so late, Bosa.
