Bills hit with reality check in their pursuit of an elite offensive weapon via trade as obstacles quickly emerge
Not great, Bob. Not great. At least there’s some finality.
The Buffalo Bills are out of the running for Philadelphia Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown.
The saga has had its fair share of ups and downs, but Bills Mafia fully understands that when Buffalo went out and traded for former Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore, Buffalo probably wouldn’t take another massive swing during the offseason for a player to pair with quarterback Josh Allen.
Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated shared the update that Buffalo was out of the mix to land the talented pass-catcher, putting a final nail in the coffin for the hopes and dreams of the fanbase.
If Buffalo is going to add another talent at wide receiver, it’s going to be via free agency or the draft.
“With Brown’s other desired AFC landing spots (Chiefs, Chargers, Bills) now out of the mix, the Patriots stood as the only real suitor at the end of the week, and Brown wasn’t moved. The Patriots aren’t going to bid against themselves. Philadelphia isn’t giving Brown away. And so on.” – Albert Breer
Buffalo is out of the running for Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown
Brown has grown tired of his role with the Eagles, with more than a handful of teams calling the organization to see what it would take to bring Brown to their team. Unfortunately, Buffalo is out, and now their eyes turn elsewhere in hopes of improving the roster.
It was always going to be a long shot for Buffalo to land Brown; at least now we have some finality.
It’s a complicated situation with Brown, and it’s probably better that Buffalo was out of the running. We all know what happened when Stefon Diggs joined the organization and the outcry afterward. It seems as though Brown would be in a similar vein, and the fans are trying to stay as far away as possible from that type of energy bleeding into the locker room.
Still, despite all of his downfalls and off-the-field issues, Brown is a true No. 1 wide receiver in the league, and it pains me to write that he could very well wind up on the division rival New England Patriots if they can strike a deal that works for both sides.
Buffalo already made its big swing by bringing in Moore, and now it’s about building around that move instead of chasing another headline. Whether it’s through the draft or a more under-the-radar addition in free agency, general manager Brandon Beane still has paths to round out the room without forcing a move that doesn’t fully align with the team’s direction.
Missing out on Brown might sting in the moment, especially with the Patriots lurking, but it doesn’t change the bigger picture. The Bills still have their franchise quarterback, a No. 1 target, and the flexibility to keep shaping the roster the right way.
