Bills have a chance to make a reunion happen and help fill a major team need, but it should never happen

Please… Just, no.

The Buffalo Bills are looking for some help for quarterback Josh Allen this offseason, and general manager Brandon Beane is going to leave no stone unturned in his effort to improve the roster — and the DJ Moore trade is big proof of that process.

One name in particular started to make waves across Bills Mafia, and it’s a familiar face. I want to preface this by saying I hope that this doesn’t happen, but stranger things have occurred in the NFL. The New England Patriots are set to release wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a rather surprising move. It came just before the NFL free agency period begins, and it has the Mafia talking about a reunion.

Stefon Diggs to Buffalo should never happen, despite his success with the organization

First and foremost, I’m not going to pretend that Diggs wasn’t terrific in his time with Buffalo. The aging veteran really came through during his tenure in Buffalo and was that true No. 1 wide receiver threat that fans are now clamoring for. Bringing Diggs back wouldn’t provide Buffalo a true No. 1 option, but rather a middling WR3 or WR4 on the roster, if the move were to be made.

Diggs, in four years in Buffalo, played in 66 games with 445 receptions for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns.

He grew tired of the “everyone eats” style offense and was vocal about wanting a new change of scenery. Buffalo, in a surprising move, wound up eating a ton of dead cap space and traded the superstar to the Houston Texans, where he spent one season with the team before joining the New England Patriots in 2025.

Diggs paired well with Drake Maye in his lone season with the Patriots

In his single season in New England, he was a veteran presence and provided a big boost for rising star quarterback Drake Maye. While he didn’t explode off the stats sheet, Diggs finished his career with the Patriots having 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. Still plenty of gas left in the tank.

Some off-the-field issues are impossible to ignore surrounding Diggs. Paired with his less-than-ideal exit from Buffalo, I just can’t see a reunion happening in any universe. Despite the bad blood when the two sides had to split, Diggs has always spoken kindly of his time in Western New York and the bond he made with quarterback Josh Allen.

The memories of Diggs in Buffalo should stay exactly that, memories.

He was instrumental in helping change the trajectory of the franchise and gave Bills Mafia some unforgettable moments alongside Allen. That chapter of Bills football meant a lot to the organization and the fan base, but it’s a chapter that’s already been written.

Buffalo needs to be focused on taking advantage of the next great weapon for Allen, and hopefully, Moore will be that guy, not revisiting one that has already run its course. As fun as the reunion talk might be for a day or two during the chaos of free agency, the reality is simple.

Some stories are better left where they ended.
