The Buffalo Bills are shaking up the roster after the heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s been a kicking carousel in Buffalo after Tyler Bass went down in the preseason with an injury, forcing the team to bring in kicker Matt Prater ahead of the Week 1 matchup against the Ravens. Bills Mafia knows all too well how that story ended. Prater drilled the game-winner and became a Buffalo legend. He had been playing great all season for Buffalo in place of Bass, until he went down with an injury.

The team was then forced to bring in kicker Michael Badgley for the past two games, and now he has been waived by the Bills.

Badgley missed extra points in consecutive games, with one coming off a crucial block by the Eagles in the Week 17 loss. To put it plainly, he hasn’t been as good as Prater and has left much to be desired in the special teams game.

Farewell, Michael Badgley

After his first game in Buffalo, the team brought in three kickers for tryouts but ultimately stuck with Badgley. Hindsight is 20/20, but perhaps this one decision could have won them the game on Sunday. Nevertheless, Badgley’s tenure in Buffalo has come to an end.

He’s been officially waived from the team’s practice squad.

The news comes after head coach Sean McDermott provided an update on kicker Prater, saying that he’s close to coming back for Buffalo. With Badgley gone, it seems as though Prater will return for the season finale against the New York Jets.

Whether it’s Prater or another option entirely, Buffalo made it clear with this move that the margin for error is gone. With the playoffs looming, the Bills can’t afford uncertainty at kicker, and this roster shakeup signals they’re ready to tighten the screws heading into the final game of the regular season.
