Bills’ Tre’Davious White lays it all out when asked about his injury and road to return
Great to hear from Tre’Davious White.
The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for a divisional showdown against the New York Jets in Week 2. The latest injury report was a mixed bag, with Ed Oliver seen in a walking boot from an apparent ankle injury. On the positive side, Keon Coleman, Christian Benford, and James Cook were all full participants.
However, one name that sticks out is Tre’Davious White, who was limited on Wednesday and Thursday. White appears to be trending in the right direction for Week 2 after he was ruled out for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
He’s a fan favorite among Bills Mafia, and his responses during the interview make it clear why. His energy is infectious, and he was thoughtful with his answers. The veteran discussed how he’s mentally recovering from the injury on top of the physical aspect. Matthew Bove, sports director for WKBW, shared the interview on X.
“I’ve been good, man,” White said. “Been through it before. It’s not as bad of a thing as getting carted off the field. That’s a blessing in itself. I got a chance to practice, that’s a blessing man. The last few injuries I had, I wouldn’t be able to come back and practice, I was done for the year. This was just a small bump.”
Tre’Davious White’s injury history with the Bills
Bills Mafia remembers all too well the Thanksgiving game where White was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Then again, in 2023, the veteran cornerback was lost for the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins.
The Bills star was asked about his path to get back on the field and provided some insight into the cornerback position itself. One thing is for certain: He’s hungry to get back out there. Unfortunately, he didn’t provide too much of an update on when he’ll be back, just that he’s continuing to rehab and getting better little by little.
“Just continuing to practice, just fine-tuning my craft, getting my wind up,” White said. “Continue to just practice [. . .] getting back into the groove of things. This cornerback thing is all about momentum and having a good feel for it and pretty much having an overall feel for the game. I feel like, as much as I’m on the field and continue to practice with my teammates, I’ll continue to get better.”
Bills’ sixth-round rookie made waves in Week 1 vs. Ravens
In his absence, sixth-round rookie Dorian Strong was forced into the matchup against the Baltimore Ravens and held his own. He even stopped Derrick Henry in the open field, which is no small feat.
Regardless of Strong’s performance, having both Benford and White back on the field together will go a long way toward success for the organization. In the meantime, the team will continue to work Maxwell Hairston back from his injury and hope to get White back sooner rather than later. The Bills’ final injury report releases on Friday, with a handful of names to keep an eye on.
The fan base is thrilled to have White back with the team.
