The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for a divisional showdown against the Denver Broncos, with the winner getting a chance to go to the AFC Championship game.

Buffalo has had an interesting year, and even with advancing to the second round of the playoffs, there are questions about the team’s identity. They are a gritty, hard-nosed team that deploys a next-man-up mentality in each game due to injuries.

That’s not to say that there haven’t been bright spots, and one name in particular deserves far more respect at the national level. Even moreso, he deserves to be in consideration for Comeback Player of the Year.

Tre White has been playing exceptional football

That man is none other than veteran cornerback Tre’Davious White. White was drafted by Buffalo in 2017 and spent the next seven seasons being a staple on the defensive side of the football. Injuries plagued his career, forcing him to move on to the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens before returning to Buffalo on a one-year deal in April.

He tore his ACL; he tore his Achilles; he was cut by the Bills and traded to the Rams, but somehow made his way back to Buffalo.

“I can honestly say I’m so incredibly proud of myself because of what I had to overcome,” White said.

Just how good has White been for Buffalo, after many wrote off his career after a less-than-stellar performance with both the Rams and Ravens? Well, according to advanced metrics, since Week 6, White has allowed the second-lowest passer rating in the league (43.2) and the lowest completion percentage in the league (32.1%). He’s been all over the field and a huge piece of the defense.

Josh Allen had nothing but praise for his cornerback

Those inside One Bills Drive know how important White has been. He’s the ultimate professional both on and off the field, and the Bills Mafia loves him for it. White is a character, and one that the fanbase quickly fell in love with once he arrived in Buffalo. He was actually the first selection made during head coach Sean McDermott’s tenure with the Bills.

Quarterback Josh Allen quickly let the world know just how special White is to the locker room and the organization, especially after yet another dominant performance against the Jaguars.

“Yeah, it’s inspiring. I think you know everybody in Buffalo loves Tre White, I’m included in that,” Allen said. “Not just the player that he is, but the man, the adversity that he’s fought through throughout his entire career. To kind of leave and come back, and again Buffalo welcomed him and really wanted him back. He’s going out there and making plays for this defense and our team and helping us win football games. Again, I just have so much respect for him, more so as a person than a player.”

And that respect shows up every Sunday. In a season defined by injuries, constant questions about Buffalo’s identity, and some uncertainty, White has provided a steady answer. He didn’t just make it back to the Bills; he made it back to himself. When you come to Buffalo, you become the best version of yourself, and that’s what we’ve seen with White this season.

As the Bills prepare for their biggest test yet in Denver, White isn’t chasing validation anymore; he’s earned it.
