The message for the Carolina Panthers throughout the 2024 NFL offseason is relatively simple – improve.
With new-look general manager Dan Morgan, the Panthers have a new man in charge of personnel decisions.
And Tuesday during the NFL Scouting Combine, Morgan admitted that the biggest need of the offseason was securing talent at the wide receiver spot to help sophomore year signal caller, Bryce Young.
“We need some more playmakers,” Morgan said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “We have Adam Thielen, (2023 second-round pick Jonathan Mingo), but we gotta add some more receivers, some more depth and competition in that room right now. And we just gotta get guys who can make plays. That’s really what we’re (honing in on) in the draft or in free agency.”
Through the draft, the Panthers have options. NFL scouts consider the 2024 NFL Draft as a deep one at the wide receiver position.
Already, the Panthers have met with South Carolina receiver Xavier Legette, but there are other options Morgan appears more than willing to explore.
“I think wide receiver-wise, I think it is a strength,” Morgan said. “I think it’s pretty obvious, it’s not a secret that we need to add more playmakers in that room.”
The draft isn't the Panthers' only option. Carolina will also test the waters in free agency.
Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins was already franchise-tagged, but Mike Evans remains a realistic option for the Panthers.
In whatever way the Panthers choose to address the roster concerns, fixing the wide receiver position is mission No. 1 in Morgan's eyes.
