General manager Dan Morgan gave Carolina Panthers fans a reason to remain calm on Monday.

Contract talks with star defensive lineman Derrick Brown are progressing and Morgan believes a deal could get done sooner rather than later.

"I'm not going to put any timetable on it; we have had some good discussions with his agent," Morgan said. "But as of right now, we're working through that, and hopefully, it ends up working out at the end, which I think it will."

Keeping Brown would be a welcome sign for the Panthers, who have already sent Brian Burns away in a trade with the New York Giants.

Carolina also lost out on keeping Yetur Gross-Matos and Frankie Luvu. Ensuring Brown stays should be priority No. 1 for Morgan moving into the 2024 season.

And by all accounts, that is exactly what is going to happen.

Now re-signing Brown won't come cheap. Several defensive linemen earned massive paydays early in 2024. But if Carolina wants to be an imposing team, paying for top talent can't be a deterrent from re-signing a homegrown star.
