It was a busy early stretch for the Carolina Panthers during the 2024 NFL free agency.
Coming in, new-look Panthers general manager Dan Morgan said he wanted to add "dawgs." Thus far, he feels he succeeded.
The Panthers added 11 outside free agents, including a pair of starting guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, who required a significant financial investment. The team also traded for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson, finally giving rookie quarterback Bryce Young a top target. Following the flurry of moves, Morgan finally revealed what he thought about the Panthers' free-agent hall and roster additions.
"You know, these moves are all with the future in mind," Morgan said to Panthers.com writer Darin Gantt. "I think we definitely are resetting in a sense, but that doesn't mean that we're just going to not be good and not be competitive."
The Panthers are in a retooling mode after one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history.
With Dave Canales now at the helm, an improved offensive line and added wide receiver options, the Panthers are confident the team will be better than it was during the 2023 NFL season.
