A monumental injury on Monday night has sent shockwaves across the entire NFL landscape to begin the week.

New York Jets new quarterback Aaron Rodgers is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles during his season debut against the Buffalo Bills.

The injury occurred during the Jets first drive of the game after sack by defensive end Leonard Floyd resulted in Rodgers' foot being twisted on the way to the ground.

This is certainly terrible news for the Jets and major news for the rest of the AFC East division. However, the feared season-ending injury also hold major implications to the future of the NFC North and the Green Bay Packers.

When the Jets traded for the 39-year-old back in March, the agreement included a conditional 2024 second-round pick that was sent to the Packers. That conditional pick would become a first-round selection if Rodgers were to play in 65% of the season's snaps.

Given the severity of Monday night's injury, that threshold is now unlikely to be reached. The trade of the four-time MVP will instead net the Packers the 2023 first-round pick swap (outside linebacker Lukas Van Ness), the Jets' 2023 second-round pick (tight end Luke Musgrave), a 2023 sixth-round pick (kicker Anders Carlson) and now the 2024 second-round pick.

Green Bay potentially missing out on a future first-round selection is major news for the Bears and the rest of the NFC North. No one wishes to look at the competitive side of massive injuries to star players but this situation certainly cannot be overlooked.

Well wishes are needed even for the Bears most notorious rival. Achilles tears are difficult injuries to recover from in the NFL, it becomes even more difficult for a player this late into their career. The NFL world holds their collective breath hoping that Rodgers can return to the field once again.
