The Chicago Bears have been among the most active NFL teams during the opening stages of the NFL offseason.
And they now turn their attention towards the 2024 NFL Draft as they attempt to go from last to first in the NFC North.
In a new two round A to Z Sports Mock Draft the Bears left with two of the drafts best players, one on each side of the ball.
Round 1, Pick 1: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

"This pick has been written in sharpie for a while now, but the Bears finalizing the trade to send Justin Fields to Pittsburgh made it known to the rest of the NFL that they are taking a QB here. While there are multiple intriguing options, it seems obvious that Caleb Williams has the full attention of Chicago."
All signs point towards the Bears selecting USC QB Caleb Williams to be the franchise's next starting QB. Williams and his team seem to share that same sentiment, as they have been very selective on the teams they'd even share his medicals with and opted out of participating in the drill portion at the 2024 Scouting Combine. I think it's fair to assume at this point that the Bears have already decided which QB they will select in the 2024 NFL Draft, and I, like many others, believe that it'll be Williams.
Round 1, Pick 9: Byron Murphy II, IDL, Texas

"I think the Bears would love for one of the top four QBs to remain on the board here so they can facilitate a trade out of this pick. One reason is that there are multiple different approaches they could take with this pick. They could go edge, WR, TE, maybe even OL. I went a different route here, though, by selecting Texas DT Byron Murphy II. The impact of a true difference maker on the interior of the defensive line in head coach Matt Eberflus' defense shouldn't be overlooked here. While some may consider it a reach, I think Murphy II could be a perfect fit for the Bears here."
While the Bear's first pick is pretty simple, their second first-round pick is more challenging to predict. They could go in so many different directions, but the route I chose to take is Texas DT Byron Murphy II. Some may think a DT this high is a reach, but it shouldn't be underestimated how important a true disrupter on the inside can be in Matt Eberflus' defense. Murphy II has all the talent needed to be a day-one contributor and the upside of becoming one of the best DTs in the NFL.
