The Chicago Bears are currently 6.5-point underdogs to the San Francisco 49ers, but Bears fans -and bettors around the country- are likely to see that spread decline over the next few hours.
That's because ESPN's Adam Schefter reported early late Saturday night that 49ers All-Pro tight end, George Kittle, is not expected to play when the two teams kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
Kittle popped up on the 49ers injury report on Wednesday with said groin issue and it's been unclear as to whether or not he'd be able to play in the season-opener against the Bears.
Now, we have our answer.
It's a big loss for second-year quarterback Trey Lance, who is the 49ers' new starter after taking the starting gig from Jimmy Garoppolo during the offseason. As we all know, a good tight end is a quarterback's best friend – especially a young quarterback. And, Kittle is undoubtedly one of the best tight ends in the game. The injury marks Kittle's 12th missed game out of the last 34 possible contests.
But one team's loss is another team's win in the NFL. The Bears' new-look defense catches a big break with the news, even though I'm sure they were looking forward to the challenge that is defending Kittle.
